The introduction of Oil-filled Transformer

What is an Oil-filled Transformer?

The oil tank is the shell of the transformer, which contains the iron core and coil and is filled with transformer oil so that the core and coil are immersed in the oil. Transformer oil plays the role of insulation and heat dissipation. Large transformers generally have two oil tanks, one for the body tank; One is the on-load pressure regulating tank, and the on-load pressure regulating tank is equipped with a switching switch. This is because the switching will produce arc during operation, if the frequent operation will make the oil insulation performance decline, so a separate tank will be set up to place the switching switch separately.

The characteristics of oil-filled transformer

Oil-filled Transformer has the characteristics of good heat dissipation, low loss, large capacity and low price. Its main role in the power grid is the conversion of electric energy, that is, the transformation of voltage level. It is understood that most of the power transformers operating on the power grid are Oil-filled Transformer.

So when it comes to transformers, you may first think of dry type transformers and oil-filled transformers, so what is the difference between these two types? The biggest difference between dry transformer and oil-immersed transformer is that there is no "oil", and because the oil is liquid and liquid, the oil-immersed transformer must have a shell. The shell is transformer oil, the oil is soaked in the transformer coil, and the transformer coil can not be seen from the outside; The dry transformer has no oil, no shell, can directly see the transformer coil; Another feature is that the oil-immersed transformer has an oil pillow above it, and the transformer oil is stored inside, but now the new oil-immersed transformer also has transformer production without oil pillow; Oil-immersed transformer in order to facilitate heat dissipation, that is, to facilitate the flow of internal insulating oil heat dissipation, the radiator is designed in the outside, just like the heat sink, and the dry transformer does not have the radiator, heat dissipation depends on the fan below the transformer coil. Oil-immersed transformers are generally installed in separate transformer rooms or outdoors due to the need of fire prevention, while dry transformers must be installed indoors, generally installed in low-voltage distribution rooms, and low-voltage distribution cabinets side by side.
